You’ll encounter the Mole Crawler once in the fifth chapter of The First Soldier, when you enter the caves and ruins on Archipelago. Like the Ghost Balloon, the Mole Crawler is a Rhadorian mechanical weapon and consequently attacks with mechanical weapons. It can lower your MDEF with Tear Gas Bomb and deal magic fire elemental damage with Blazing Ray.
The Double Burst Shot attack is particularly nasty, hitting all allies, dealing little damage, but attacking very often in succession. This can quickly send you to the afterlife.
The Mole Crawler not only looks well protected, but it is. Besides the typical status aliments, it is also immune to PATK, PDEF, MATK and MDEF. On the other hand, as a machine he is not only weak against lightning, but as a mole he is also weak against earth and protected against aero.
