Currently there is no week without new announcements in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. This week, unfortunately, there is again no announcement about the continuation of the three story campaigns. Instead, a new dungeon ranking was announced, which the community received with mixed opinions.
Master the Rhadore Archipelago
After the first dungeon ranking started with the infiltration of the Mako Reactor, the second ranking starts with the beginning of the story of The First Soldier, while Glenn, Matt and Lucia are on the Rhadore Archipelago. However, you are not bound to these three characters, but you can choose your strongest party members.
You can explore The La’paina Coast again in 3 difficulty levels starting on October 26th. You have until November 2nd to reach a high score. The result will then be probed for a day, divided into groups of 10,000 players and cheaters, etc. filtered out, so that on the weekend the winners will be announced and you can claim your rewards.
During the story, you’ll have to deal mostly with Bailors, the Bailor King and the Bailor Queen. As the story progresses, the Spooky Balloon, Zu and Mole Crawler, among others, will be added. It’s very possible that these enemies will face you as boss fights in the dungeons, since Square Enix already writes in the announcement that Thunder and partly Wind will be very effective and useful.
Pay to Win
Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is a free-to-play game and is really excellent to play without spending a single cent. You can play through the story and all the dungeons without any problems. However, it looks different when you compete against other players. When you’ve reached a party strength of 120,000 even after two months, it’s a great achievement and you think you’ve maximized almost everything you can. In the high scores of the last Dungeon Ranking: Mako Reactor 1, the top spots were invariably occupied by players with a strength beyond the 200,000 mark.
How can this be? The answer is called whales. While many players play Ever Crisis for free, there are the power gamers who put three- or four-figure amounts into the game to get close to Mythril Ore, Materia Synthesis material, or Memory Crystals. Taking the three main weapons, three secondary weapons, and 9 sub-weapons to the highest level 90 gives you a gigantic power-up, but costs a lot of money.
That’s why many players have complained on Discord and X (formerly Twitter) that the event is pointless or no fun, since you don’t stand a chance against the whales anyway, who invest a disproportionate amount of money in the game.
The hope is that Square Enix will adjust the group formation and, for example, put the groups together based on the maximum power level and not the account level or even select purely randomly. We think the chances of this are very slim and are curious to see how the upcoming Dungeon Ranking: La’paina Coast will be received.
